The project falls within the category of large-scale reconversion of public buildings characterized by a rigidly predefined structural scheme.

CONTEXT
The complex, with a total surface of 42,039 m², is situated on a 2.14-hectare plot. The starting point was an unfinished administrative building with a monolithic reinforced concrete load-bearing structure and massive perimeter masonry, a typological volume lacking defined visual identity and specific function.

TRANSFORMATION STRATEGY
The objective was to transform this structural frame into a complete public and cultural centre, an art school and museum complex. The project required profound functional reorganisation of spaces and the definition of a new visual and spatial presence capable of conferring long-term status and value on the building.

SPATIAL APPROACH
A spatial and compositional structure for the complex was developed, capable of defining its scale, logic, and character. The typological administrative volume was transformed into an institutional building with a clearly defined representative role.

The compositional solution was based on:
clear compositional structure
legible hierarchy of volumes
contemporary interpretation of classical compositional language
PROGRAM
The functional programme includes:
a museum and exhibition block with permanent and temporary exhibition halls
a cinema and concert hall
a sports complex with swimming pool
a library laboratories and teaching classrooms
PROJECT DATA
The project was developed in Moscow in 2009 on commission from MOSZHILNIIPROEKT, Moscow’s public design institute.
The building was completed and commissioned in 2012.

Pre-2019 project completed abroad. Since 2019 LUUMAA Design operates in Italy exclusively in interior & exterior design, spatial direction, concept development, and creative direction, in collaboration with licensed professionals for regulatory, structural, and authorisation aspects.
